Essence
I would like to start a discussion in hope to help us think about the expression of photography. can we really capture more than there really is in a photo? What I mean is can we really capture a bit of the essence of a person, place,or thing? The Part that is typically seen with time and relationship. If we can capture the essence how do we do it? Please comment I would love to hear your thoughts.

not sure, i think if you get the atmosphere of the picture and light correct, maybe you can see the picture and feel like you’re actually there. cool shot though.

“The tendency in talking about art is always to pigeonhole rather than to judge a thing for what it is trying to do.” – Manny Faber
I think that a picture can tell a story. It can capture emotion and communicate it. A portrait could show hope or hopelessness through a person’s face or posture. With a photo you only get a brief moment, it’s hard to manipulate the message into anything other than what it is already, it simply communicates what’s there.
