Essence

with 3 comments

I would like to start a discussion in hope to help us think about the expression of photography. can we really capture more than there really is in a photo? What I mean is can we really capture a bit of the essence of a person, place,or thing? The Part that is typically seen with time and relationship. If we can capture the essence how do we do it? Please comment I would love to hear your thoughts.

“Get to know your Neighbor” meet Mike

leave a comment »

Mike is originally from Detroit. He came to Denver to find work and a new life. Mike admits things havent come together the way he wished they had. He’s been on the streets for a while and he says it’s tough. during our conversation Mike told me he thinks he has pneumonia and there is nothing he can do. Mike is a gentle kind man. He looked rough and beat up but seemed to still have a spark of youthful energy.

Hidden Beauties

with 3 comments

Lately my thoughts have been caught up by the contrast I see all around. The contrast of beautiful Afghan children who play soccer in the field while a moment later a landmine takes their limbs. The contrast of a beautiful Thai woman who only knew how to make money by sleeping with men. The contrast of a young man who wants to change the world but loses his life because he wasn’t strong enough to keep swimming.

I was told not to long ago that I could be an eye piece for beauty. That is exciting and all, but in the mist of all this contrast how do I do it?

When you reach the heart of life you shall find beauty in all things, even in the eyes that are blind to beauty.”
-Kahlil Gibran

Maybe all we need to do is look. I mean really look and we can find it. The hard part isn’t seeing, it’s reacting and letting that hidden “hand print” of beauty change you and your perspectives.

Lets keep our eyes and hearts on the look out for these hidden things.

What are hidden beauties in your life? Please share I would love to hear from you.

Here are a couple of photos from a family walk. I love capturing the invisible in my family. Hope you enjoy.

On another note I am working on posting at least two posts a week. Also soon I will be heading to New Orleans for a week and will do a little story on Mardi Gras. Keep an eye out (dont worry it will be PG). Have a great week.

Media with Emotion

with 2 comments

He’s been through wars, hurricanes, and worse. But in Haiti Steve Harrigan couldn’t contain his emotions.

I appreciate the real emotions of this video. I mean many times it seems to me that media has to keep a professional countenance. This video encompasses the desire that is in me to not only capture pain and tragedy, but to allow myself to feel and connect with the people. I never want to be disconnected from the humanity around me.

On another note. If I could offer a challenge…it would be to check out the coverage of the Earth quake in Haiti and take it in. I don’t want you to create a traumatic experience for yourself, but I am a firm believer in being educated about world events. Lets connect ourselves with our brothers and sisters around the world. We need to remember and care.

I met Tare while downtown taking pictures. He is a student getting a degree in Design. He has a passion to create. He was a very gentle guy who seemed a bit shy. He has lived in denver for about 9 years. I wish I had gotten more time with him.

Get to know your neighbor.

with one comment

I have been challenged by others using their “art” to connect people and bless others. So I decided that I wanted to use my photography to somehow connect people. This project will be called “Get to know your neighbor”. Now it may not be the first time anyone has done this, but I don’t care I just need to get out of the closet and meet some people and take some pictures!

So pretty much I will post a picture (once every two weeks) of a person I met and a little bio of who they are and what they do in the community. I hope that this project will challenge us to get out there and meet some people. my first post will be in a couple of days so be on the look out.
